In 2021, Marcus decided to switch from a 15-year Windows career to a MacBook Pro for a new role in design and product management. He bought the machine with high hopes. Within a week, he was frustrated.
The trackpad felt alien. Keyboard shortcuts made no sense. Finder wasn't Explorer. Apps launched differently. Cloud sync seemed intentionally obscure. His Windows muscle memory—honed over years—became a liability instead of an asset.
He hired a "Mac expert" to help. They showed him Launchpad and called it a day.
Frustrated, Marcus spent the next three weeks learning macOS the hard way: Google searches, Reddit threads, YouTube tutorials, trial and error. He customized everything himself: shortcuts, automation with Shortcuts app, window management, keyboard remapping, app organization.
One day, a friend mentioned he was also struggling with a Mac switch. Marcus spent an evening doing for his friend what he'd done for himself—and his friend was transformed. "Why isn't this a service?" they asked.
MacFlow Setup was born.
